the golden moment
We are here and it’s now
It is officially the mistletoe and fairy light season. We made it here. Another year trudged through. Only a short hike till the end. Firstly I just want to say, what a goddamn year. What a goddamn journey. There has been more change this year in my life than there has been in any other. Typically growth is subtle, it creeps in like sun rays through ajar doors. It isn’t till you reflect that you truly see how much you’ve grown but for me, this year was different. I felt the growth as it came. Sometimes forced to adjust at a pace I wasn’t comfortable with. We find ourselves waiting for the final moments of a year before we treat ourselves to the highlight reels and the outtakes. We usually dedicate the last few days to thinking of all that came before but this year, let’s do it a little differently. Let’s start now. Let’s really soak this year in. Let’s think of the hardest moments, the ones we barely made it through and let’s realise that we are in the current era beyond that. This right here is the after-season. And there will be a portion of people reading this who are currently beginning their most difficult section but hey, you will make it through this and if there is any moment where you honestly believe you won’t, remember you aren’t alone and flood my inbox with whatever troubles you. It is always open. Arms wide and welcoming. I am always here.
And to everybody, let’s focus on those golden moments. The ones that will shimmer for years to come. The ones that were born immortal and infinite. Reflect. Be proud of your growth. Be proud of your survival. Be proud that you are you. This year you made mistakes but so did I and so did every human on this planet. Let us leave the harshness behind and just be grateful for how amazing we are. Yo, one hundred - love yourself fiercely. You’ve earned it. In the season of giving - take some of it and give it inward. I want to leave you with a quote from the movie ‘The Last Black Man In San Fransisco’ - I think it fits here. Stay festive, homies.
Montgomery Allen:
