I want it, I need it
And staying on the topic of darkness, let’s discuss sleep. Lately I don’t want any of it. I want to rise and write, read, create! I want to design things, take photographs, get inspired and consume. Consume the world. Good god I am hungry for more… everything. I want to become a two way black hole. I talked last week about the positive side of dark and I find it still but lately there has been a lot of dread in the dark. Staring upward trying to find the ceiling hoping morning would come sooner so the consumption can begin.
I want to learn new writing styles. I have a thousand poems in my head and I don’t have the time to get them all out. Obviously I can’t. And the longer I lay there, the more poems that come. And although this might be a problem you don’t understand or relate to, I am sure something has kept you awake at night. I am sure you have closed your eyes and gone nowhere. So for this edition of the newsletter I want to hand the conclusion over to you. I have counted sheep, drank tea, taken CBD, attempted yoga and meditation, tried sleep hypnosis and a bunch of other wacky things but I am still here, in this world instead of another. So let’s make a list and share them. Compile them and try them. So with the heading
Things that help me sleep
write a minimum of three things that do just that and share them in the comments. And if you take one thing from this newsletter it’s that you can reach out and ask for help. There’s no shame in admitting you need it either. Some problems are too big for one brain. Take with you that if you are here right now, reading this, it is impossible for you to be alone. More on that next week but for now, let’s get a good nights sleep and stop doing the Shepard’s job.
This kids 17 and slaying it. Jesus Christ.
3 things that help me sleep: 1. Hot shower before bed. The sound of the water, the warmth - helps me relax before climbing into bed. Once I am in bed, two things that help me are: the body scan… head to toe, focusing on each body part and relaxing them. 2. Gratitude- going over the list of all the things I am grateful for. From the comfortability of my pillow to the fact that I am in a country that is not currently being bombed 🙏 those are 3 things that help me to fall asleep…
